Olive oil destroys cancer cells and prohibits their multiplication. According to researches, olive oil one the most powerful "weapons" against cancer, since the polyphenol contained in olives,

hydroxytyrosol, destroys cancer cells and prohibits their propagation. Thus, by consuming three to four olives per day we protect our organism from cancer. These are the study results of the expatriate scientist Tom Karagiannis, head of the Molecular and Gene Research Department of Baker Institute of Melbourne. His research will be awarded in the 2nd Worldide Special Olympics.

The study of Mr. Karagiannis has demonstrated that hydroxytyrosol destroys the cancerous erythroid cells K562 while sparingthe peripheral blood mononuclear cells. For the benefit of our health, Mr. Karagiannis recommends the consuption of 50 ml of raw virgin olive oil, from which the human organism will recieve polyphenols, or 3-4 olives per day, or a combination of olive oil and olives consumption.

"It is generally accepted that the mediterranean diet which is rich in olives, supplies 10-20 mg of phenols. Assuming that they are efficiently absorbed, the antioxidising result will be sufficient", Tom Karagiannis emphasizes in his paper. At the same time he stresses that the anticancerous effect of hydroxytyrosol in vitro and in vivo is hard to be disputed due to the large number of existing proof.

Apart from olives, hydroxytyrosol can be also found in the Cretan herb dittany, lavender, lemon verbena, grapes, carob and wild myrtle.
